Cataract Surgery

We Care Cataract Surgery Clinics

June, 2021

The We Care Foundation of Indian River ( and the We Care
Clinic are excited to announce special benefits for We Care patients this year.   We Care is very pleased that our ability to have free cataract surgeries performed will be quadrupled and at least 26 cataract surgeries will be performed without charge to the patients in 2021!  Herman Fountain, M.D.  and the We Care Clinic staff have already identified this number of patients referred for eye problems who need cataract surgery.  Robert Reinauer, M.D. of New Vision Eye Center has volunteered to lead this project and will start with a pilot group of 6 patients, who had preoperative evaluation performed on June 14, with surgery to follow in a month.  The remaining patients will then be taken care of at a large-scale cataract clinic at New Vision later in the year.    This gift of service has been made possible by the generosity of Robert Reinauer, M.D., the New Vision Eye Center, the

Indian River County Health Tax District Trustees, and We Care Foundation donors like “Coastal Concierge Services” ( to whom we are very grateful.

We Care is a program sponsored by the Indian River County Medical Society by which patients in need are referred to specialty physicians for free medical care.  This year is the 30th Anniversary of the We Care Clinic, which has totaled over $17,000,000 of donated physician services during this time.  The We Care Foundation raises funds to operate the Clinic, and provide specific items recommended by volunteer physicians to the patients, without charge.
